NDLEA Cracks Syndicate Selling Cannabis as ‘Christmas Cookies’ in Lagos.
In a striking case of deception, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled a sophisticated drug syndicate that disguised high-grade cannabis as imported Christmas cookies and snacks. Operatives arrested two alleged masterminds, Deji Adesanya and Olubiyi Majekodunmi, on Saturday, 22 November 2025, following a raid at their hideout on Ojulari Street, Ikate, in the affluent Lekki area. According to the NDLEA, the syndicate imported a potent strain of Canadian Loud cannabis and repackaged it in colorful designer sachets, adorned with images and labels of well-known cookies and snacks, to evade detection. The illicit products were marketed and sold exclusively through a dedicated Whats App platform, allowing the suspects to reach unsuspecting buyers. During the raid, officers recovered the deceptive packaging along with approximately five kilograms of the cannabis. The arrests were the result of sustained intelligence monitoring of the group’s online activities. The suspects remain in NDLEA custody as investigations continue, with authorities vowing to clamp down on similar drug operations exploiting digital platforms. This case has raised concerns about the lengths to which traffickers are willing to go, using familiar consumer products to conceal illegal substances.
