Delta Police Break Kidnap and Robbery Syndicates in String of Operations

News Image

The Delta State Police Command has carried out a series of coordinated operations that led to the death of a suspected kidnapper, the arrest of multiple gang members, and the recovery of firearms and stolen property. The developments unfolded between 28 November and 1 December, drawing attention across the state as officers moved swiftly through forests and major routes. On 1 December, operatives of the State Anti Cult Unit, working with community volunteers, advanced into the Obiaruku forest after receiving intelligence that a kidnap ring was gathering in the area. The suspects were said to have opened fire once the team arrived. The officers countered with what police described as superior force, leaving one suspect dead at the scene. An AK forty seven rifle with forty two live rounds, nine mobile phones and charms were recovered. Other members of the group fled with injuries as the forest operation closed. The command had already recorded earlier breakthroughs. Between 28 and 29 November, the CP Special Assignment Team, led by ASP Julius Robinson, arrested key members of a criminal syndicate. Among those taken into custody were Victor Oyuage aged twenty six, Kelvin Oke aged forty two, and Monday Emakpo aged thirty one. Officers recovered two stolen tricycles, a shotgun, a Beretta pistol and live ammunition. The arrests followed days of surveillance as the group moved around parts of the state. A separate operation on 29 November saw the Eagle Net Special Squad intercept Ezekiel Edeya aged twenty eight along the Asaba Benin Expressway. He was found with a locally made pistol, three cartridges and tools believed to be used for crime. Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda praised the operatives for what he described as gallant work and expressed appreciation to community members whose intelligence supported the operations. Suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, leaving the command with expectations of further leads that may open new layers of the case.
