Obasanjo Urges Nigerian Leaders to Think Beyond Elections
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called for Nigerian leaders to adopt long-term strategic thinking that extends beyond electoral cycles. Speaking virtually at the Second Bi-Annual Honours Awards & Dinner of the Alumni Association of the National Institute for Policy & Strategic Studies, Lagos chapter, Obasanjo stressed the need for policies rooted in integrity, honesty and national interest. “Think strategically and long term. Nigeria’s problems require vision, patience and the ability to design policies that endure beyond electoral cycles,” he said, while urging alumni and leaders to mentor younger Nigerians and strengthen institutions rather than personalities. The event recognised distinguished alumni and public figures for their contributions to leadership and national development. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other high-profile figures were among the awardees, highlighting the continued drive to promote strategic governance across sectors.
