Agbor Child Abuse Shock: Stepmother Arrested as Father Admits Painful Failure
Agbor, Delta State woke this week to a troubling account that first surfaced online, then quietly hardened into fact. At the centre of it is a grieving household, young children, and allegations that have unsettled the community.Mr Charles Igbinoma, 50, has spoken publicly after his children were found with injuries that prompted emergency medical care and the arrest of his partner, a staff member of Staff Model Secondary School. The children lost their mother to cancer on June 29, 2024. In the months that followed, Mr Igbinoma said he invited a lady friend into the home to help raise the now motherless children. What began as support, he told investigators and activists, slowly turned into distress. He admitted that the children complained repeatedly of harsh treatment. He confronted the woman several times, he said, and accepted her assurances that she would change. Each time, the matter was settled within the home.According to his testimony, one incident left a child injured after a beating. Rather than alert authorities, he said he treated the injury himself. As concerns mounted, he chose again to manage the situation quietly, calling in a nurse for home care when the children’s condition worsened. It was the nurse who insisted on taking them to hospital. At the hospital, the situation took a different turn. Human rights activists were alerted, and the woman was apprehended. One of the children, aged eight, later alleged severe acts of cruelty. The older child also described repeated beatings, saying neighbours rarely intervened. The case has also thrown a harsh light on parental responsibility. Mr Igbinoma acknowledged that he tried to contain the situation, even assuring concerned groups, including members of the Catholic Knights tasked with checking on the children’s welfare, that everything was fine. Now visibly shaken, he has accepted blame alongside the call for justice. “I know I have erred and do not deserve to be called a father,” he said through tears, urging the law to take its course both against the suspect and against himself for negligence. As investigations continue, the story has become more than a social media trend. It is a stark reminder of the silent risks faced by vulnerable children, and the cost of choosing silence over swift protection.
