Delta Police Neutralise Notorious Syndicate, Recover Arsenal, and Stolen SUV in Ughelli
In a dramatic escalation of its campaign against violent crime, the Delta State Police Command has struck a significant blow against a criminal syndicate operating in Ughelli North. Under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, officers of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) raided a suspected hideout on the outskirts of Panama Layout, leading to the deaths of four alleged gang members and the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and a stolen vehicle. The suspects identified as Peter Ejenekevwe, 31, alias Calamity; Clever David, 35; Chukwuemeka Gospel Onuchukwu, 29; and Onome Collins, 32 were linked to a spate of violent crimes, including armed robbery, murder, and sexual assault. Investigators said the group admitted to the brutal killing of Anthony Igoroko Omowho at Ekredjebor on 11th November, and the armed robbery and assault of a POS operator and her family. During the operation, officers recovered two locally made long guns, three short guns, 23 live cartridges, and keys to a Lexus 350 Jeep, which was subsequently retrieved. Police were briefly ambushed by remaining gang members in the bush, sustaining one officer injury, but repelled the attack with superior firepower. In a separate operation, Victor Peculiar, 19, was apprehended in Agbarho following a predawn raid on a residence in Uvwiama New Layout. Investigators recovered a locally fabricated double-barrelled short gun from the suspect, who is currently in custody and cooperating with police. Commissioner Abaniwonda described the operations as “a clear demonstration of the Command’s enhanced operational capacity” and reiterated the zero-tolerance policy towards violent criminal elements. Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity, with assurances of strict confidentiality. The investigation is ongoing.
