TROOPS REPEL MAJOR NIGHT ASSAULT ON CHIBOK COMMUNITIES
Security officials in Borno State confirmed in the early hours of Sunday that soldiers of the Nigerian Army foiled what they described as a coordinated night assault on communities in the Chibok area. The attempted breach, carried out by an estimated 300 fighters moving in from several directions, began shortly before three in the morning and was met with determined resistance from troops of the 28 Task Force Brigade. According to field reports, the soldiers had picked up early signs of hostile movement and quietly shifted into their defensive positions. What followed was a protracted exchange of gunfire that stretched for more than two hours. Despite the pressure and the sheer number of attackers, the troops maintained their lines and prevented any entry into the nearby settlements. As first light crept over the horizon, the attackers began to retreat in scattered groups, pulling back through the Azir axis toward the Sambisa Forest. Anticipating their withdrawal route, the Army ordered 25 Brigade to occupy fixed ambush points near Azir Bridge. Surveillance support from an unmanned aerial vehicle guided the maneuver. The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai also moved in, deploying a Super Tucano aircraft to reinforce the ground operation. Under renewed pressure, the fleeing fighters again split up, giving soldiers the opening to break up their withdrawal. Army officials later confirmed that no personnel or equipment was lost during the engagement, calling it proof of growing readiness and discipline across the theater. Troops continued follow up operations through the morning, sweeping through the general area to track any fighters who may have slipped away. Military authorities said video footage of the mass retreat has been secured and is now under study to guide further action. The Army stated that it remains focused on denying armed groups any space to regroup or threaten communities across the region, adding a reassurance that its operations will be maintained without let up.
