Police Recover Guns in Abraka Raid as Eighteen Suspects Face Court in Drug Crackdown
A quiet morning in Abraka turned tense on Saturday when police officers carried out a planned raid at a small house in Umeghe community. By the end of the search, officers had recovered two pump action guns and thirty-nine live cartridges. A sixty seven year old man, Isiakpere Friday, was taken into custody. Police said the raid was based on clear intelligence and was led by the CP Special Assignment Team under ASP Julius Robinson. The operation started shortly after seven in the morning. Investigators believe the weapons may be linked to cult groups and other criminal networks in the area. They are now widening their investigations to find out who else may be involved. The raid came as the Delta State Police Command pushed forward with another major operation in the fight against drug abuse. On Friday, eighteen male suspects were taken to court after a series of arrests carried out by the Buffalo Unit. The arrests followed surveillance and field operations around the play learn area, sweet spirit area, and pinnacle junction, all known spots for open sales of illicit drugs. The suspects, aged between sixteen and thirty-eight, were remanded in custody until they met their bail conditions. The Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, praised the officers for their work and said the Command would continue to act against cultism, drug sales, and any activity that threatens peace in the State. He urged residents to give useful information to help the police keep communities safe. There is a sense within the command that more operations may follow soon, as officers continue to track leads opened by the weekend’s activities.
